The 1928 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the IX Olympiad, was an international multi-sport event that was celebrated from 28 July to 12 August 1928 in Amsterdam, Netherlands. This year, characterised by urban innovation, world-class sportsmanship and international fraternization transforming Amsterdam, inspired us to name our hotel TWENTY EIGHT.

We are situated in the Zuid urban district, more specifically in the Stadium neighbourhood (Stadionbuurt). The Hotel is located opposite the Olympic stadium that was designed by architect Jan Wils for the 1928 Olympic Games.

Our hotel is housed in a building designed by Kollhoff Architects, with Hans Kollhoff being among Germany’s most acclaimed high profile architects.
In keeping with the original design of Stadionplein as the grand approach to the new stadium for the 1928 Olympic Games, unobstructed by developments, the architect decided to preserve some of that openness of Stadionplein’s original design by giving our hotel a 16-metre overhang without support columns. Though Stadionplein today is a lively, fully developed urban square, the vast free space under the building’s overhang allows for a unimpeded views to and from Stadionplein. The end result is a timeless building with a metropolitan feel.
On the 13th of April 2017, City ID Group opened TWENTY EIGHT, the first apartment hotel under the new label City ID – places to stay.

From the beginning, we have worked really hard to alleviate and minimise the ecological footprint of our hotel’s design, construction and maintenance. For example, our building generates a large part of its needed energy itself, has an integrated system for sustainable heating and cooling and is fitted with water-saving showerheads, toilets, taps and faucets. We also separate our waste, avoid printing unless strictly necessary and use ecologically friendly products and methods for cleaning, washing and even fire extinguishing.
These and other efforts are recognised in a Green Globe certificate, going beyond the sustainability criteria for hotels as established by the Municipality of Amsterdam. Also, we are proud TWENTY EIGHT is awarded a Golden Green Key certificate for sustainable entrepreneurship in the hospitality industry – only encouraging us to continue to look for further improvements.
